I'd had plans for forever to meet up with some friends for half-price wine bottles at a bar we like, but friends could not get to the bar until many hours after I got off work. To pass the time, I went to this divey nail salon around the corner from my office for a $23 pedicure. I don't often feel anymore like I have money to spend on pedicures, but I decided I'd probably otherwise end up shopping and spending way more money or just going to the bar early and spending that much on drinks.
I waltzed into the salon and picked out a color for my toes that I would never usually pick out for myself. I sat an extra long time in the salon waiting for them to dry, and then waltzed out to banish my toes under the bar for the evening.
Today, it's almost 90 degrees here (!!!), and I broke a rule I set for myself to never wear open-toed shoes to the office. I am wearing my eensiest pair of sandals, actually. I had a spare hour to go enjoy the weather, so I walked to Navy Pier. I cannot stop looking at my happy, summery, strawberry-margarita-colored toes! I would gladly give up a couple of cocktails a week just to be able to afford myself a little parcel of happiness that can carry me around! I don't know if it's the sassy color that is so different for me and makes me feel energized and new, or if it's the fact that it's actually warm enough to walk around in sandals, which makes me happy anyway, or if it's because every time I look at my feet I want a margarita, which also makes me happy, but, dagnabit, I'm happy!
I think we should set a BAG law that anytime we need a dose of happiness, we should head out to a divey salon or drugstore to pick out a nail color that we wouldn't normally go for and see how it changes our mood!

ReplyDeleteI have a lot of nail polish in my vanity!!!
All made me happy, and made the other SF BAGS happy too ;)
This post makes me want to ditch work, get a pedicure, and stroll in the sun. Hurray for summer sandals!
ReplyDeleteGO KRISTI. I told myself last night that I would NOT drink. Had I stuck with that plan, I would have saved over $20, more than enough for some cute nail colors or even some sandals. I re-read your post Kristi this morning and was seriously kicking myself!!!! One of my goals this summer is to drink less. The BAG BLOG will help.
